Release date: September 10th, 2024 on Marginal Frequency

"We wrote these pieces in early 2022, growing out of an exploration of the particular acoustic space held between our instruments' distinct elements. We found a joyful tension between unity and separation that became, in manifold forms, the center of each piece. This collection of music explores ideas of blend, stasis, and overlap, as well as reimagining aspects of virtuosity" - Saviet/Houston Duo

Formed in Berlin in 2019, the Saviet/Houston Duo focuses on collaboration with composers, new and experimental music, our own compositions, and 19th- and 20th-century music. Our first performance was a programme based on the theme of Nature and Conservation as part of Sasha Waltz’s festival ZUHÖREN #4 at Radialsystem, Berlin. In 2022, as part of an ongoing project, we performed several new works for re-tuned piano and violin by Catherine Lamb at km28 in Berlin. Other performances have included George Lewis and Enno Poppe at Wigmore Hall; the premiere of Rebecca Saunders/Enno Poppe's Taste at Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik 2022; performances at AFEKT Festival (Estonia); Ann Cleare and Xenakis at the National Concert Hall, Dublin; and a programme including our own piece Unfoldings at Ultraschall Festival (Berlin) in 2023. We will premiere new works by Arne Gieshoff and Zeynep Toraman at ECLAT Festival 2025. Our next album featuring duos by Poppe/Saunders, Lawrence Dunn, Michael Finnissy, Iannis Xenakis, and Saviet/Houston will appear on the HCR/NMC label in collaboration with Deutschlandfunk Kultur in January 2025.
